The SSP 64 mm Red Speed Burrs are precision-engineered, competition-grade flat burrs designed to deliver exceptional grind quality, consistency, and flavour definition across a range of brew methods. Available in two geometries — Espresso (High Uniformity) and Multipurpose (MP) — they offer enthusiasts the choice between focused espresso performance and all-round versatility for both espresso and filter brewing.

Precision Performance

Made in South Korea by SSP Grinding Solutions, these burrs are precision-cut from hardened tool steel for durability and accuracy. Both geometries feature highly refined edge profiles that produce a uniform grind distribution, enhancing sweetness, clarity, and extraction consistency.

Burr Geometry

Espresso (High Uniformity / HU): Designed specifically for traditional espresso ratios (1:2–1:2.5), this geometry produces a tighter particle distribution, yielding rich body, smooth texture, and dense crema. Ideal for medium to dark roasts or those seeking more tactile depth and balance in espresso extractions.

Multipurpose (MP): A versatile geometry engineered to perform well for both espresso and filter brewing. It provides a slightly broader particle spread, enhancing clarity and sweetness in lighter roasts while maintaining sufficient body for espresso. For pure light-roast filter brewing, SSP’s Unimodal (Brew) burrs may offer even higher clarity.

Red Speed Coating

Each burr set is treated with SSP’s “Red Speed” TiAlCN (titanium-aluminium-carbon nitride) coating — a high-performance surface that increases hardness, reduces friction, and improves wear resistance compared with uncoated steel. This coating extends burr life — typically rated at 4,000–5,000 kg of coffee — while maintaining grind precision and cooler operation under heavy use.

Installation & Use

Re-zero your grinder after installation.
Season the burrs with approximately 1–2 kg of coffee for consistent performance.
Basic alignment is recommended for optimal results.

What’s the difference between Espresso (HU) and Multipurpose (MP) burrs?

Espresso (HU) burrs focus on a tight particle distribution and richer texture for traditional espresso. Multipurpose (MP) burrs offer a slightly wider distribution, improving clarity and sweetness in lighter roasts while remaining capable of espresso use.
