The DF83V is the 83mm variable-speed flagship of the DF Series coffee grinder range. It combines vertically mounted DLC-coated flat burrs, a pre-breaker auger and electronic speed control in a refined single-dose workflow.

Designed for experienced home baristas and prosumers, the DF83V provides a powerful and highly adjustable grinding platform for espresso, filter coffee or both, depending on the selected burr configuration.

Vertical 83mm flat-burr platform

Unlike conventional flat-burr grinders that use a horizontally stacked burr arrangement, the DF83V positions its 83mm burrs vertically. A pre-breaker auger progressively feeds beans towards the burrs, supporting controlled feeding and fast grinding.

The large 83mm platform provides high grinding throughput, although burr geometry—not diameter alone—remains central to flavour, texture and grind behaviour. Read our guide to flat and conical coffee grinder burrs to learn more.

Choose your DF83V burr configuration

The DF83V is available with two factory-installed DLC-coated burr options:

  • DLC Espresso burrs: an espresso-focused option suited to customers who primarily prepare espresso and espresso-based drinks.

  • DLC Brew burrs: a filter-focused option designed primarily for brewing methods such as pour-over and batch brew.

Choose the burr set that most closely matches your primary brewing method. Burr geometry can materially alter grind behaviour and cup character, even when the grinder itself remains the same.

Electronic variable-speed control

The DF83V allows the motor speed to be adjusted from 300 to 1600 RPM in 100 RPM increments. This provides another variable for experimenting with grinding behaviour, throughput and flavour.

There is no single RPM setting that is best for every coffee or brewing method. Results depend on the burr set, roast level, grind size, dose and feeding behaviour. A practical approach is to begin near the middle of the speed range and adjust according to taste and workflow.

Single-dose workflow and static control

  • Stepless grind adjustment: enables precise changes when dialling in espresso or moving between brewing methods.

  • Integrated plasma generator: helps reduce static and grounds clinging around the exit chute.

  • Anti-popcorn lid: helps keep beans contained during grinding.

  • Included bellows: can be used after grinding to help clear residual grounds from the chamber and chute.

  • Magnetic dosing cup and chute: support a clean and accessible daily workflow.

  • 680W brushless DC motor: provides the power required to drive the large 83mm burr set.

The plasma generator helps reduce static-related mess, although the coffee, humidity and grinding workflow can still affect static. See our guide to reducing static when grinding coffee for practical advice.

Who is the DF83V coffee grinder for?

The DF83V is best suited to coffee enthusiasts who want:

  • A large 83mm flat-burr grinding platform.

  • Variable-speed control for experimentation and fine-tuning.

  • A powerful grinder for demanding espresso and filter workflows.

  • A low-retention single-dose workflow for changing coffees regularly.

  • A choice between espresso-focused and filter-focused factory burrs.

It is particularly well suited to users who value adjustability and large-burr performance over the smallest possible footprint or the simplicity of a fixed-speed grinder. For a smaller and lighter variable-speed option, consider the DF64V coffee grinder.
