The DF64 Gen 2 Coffee Grinder is a versatile single-dose coffee grinder with stepless adjustment and a broad grind range suitable for espresso, moka pot, AeroPress, pour-over, drip coffee and immersion brewing.
Its practical grind range extends from approximately 180 µm at the fine end to around 1050 µm at the coarse end. The table below provides approximate DF64 Gen 2 dial settings and particle-size ranges for common brewing methods.
Treat these settings as starting points rather than fixed recipes. Grinder calibration, burr geometry, coffee freshness, roast level, dose and brewing equipment can all affect the setting that works best. On the DF64 Gen 2, lower dial numbers are finer and higher numbers are coarser.

*All ranges are approximate. Dial positions can vary between grinders because of differences in zero point, calibration, burr alignment, burr type and seasoning. Particle sizes are indicative rather than exact measurements of every particle produced.
How to use these settings
Begin near the middle of the suggested range for your brewing method, then adjust according to flow and taste. Make one change at a time so that you can identify how each adjustment affects the result.

For pour-over and filter coffee: grind finer if the brew drains too quickly or tastes weak, and coarser if it drains very slowly or tastes harsh and over-extracted.
- For French press and cold brew: begin in the coarse range, but avoid assuming that the coarsest possible setting will always produce the best result. Adjust according to steeping time, filtration and taste.
When moving the grinder towards a finer setting, make the adjustment while the motor is running. This helps prevent residual coffee from becoming compressed between the burrs. Why DF64 settings can vary
The numbered dial is a repeatable reference for your own grinder, but it is not a universal particle-size measurement. Two DF64 Gen 2 grinders may require different dial positions for the same coffee because their zero points, burr alignment or installed burr sets differ.
Changing from stainless steel to Red Titanium burrs or another aftermarket burr set may also change where espresso and filter settings appear on the dial. After replacing burrs, re-establish the grinder’s zero point and dial in again rather than relying on your previous numbers.
