Why are there price differences in DF64 Gen 2 listings?

Prices vary by retailer, but DF64 Gen 2 listings can also differ by configuration.

Some versions ship with standard uncoated stainless steel burrs, while others include upgraded burr sets.

The DF64 Gen 2 units we stock include Red Titanium (AlTiN) coated stainless steel burrs — a more premium burr set designed for improved wear resistance and longer edge life compared to uncoated stainless.

Read more about red titanium coated burrs in our guide.

Do you sell the DF54 with Red Titanium burrs?

Yes — we sell the DF54 withRed Titanium (AlTiN) 54mm burrs. Select the Red Titanium burr option on our DF54 product page.

Do you sell open-box / clearance grinders?

Yes — from time to time we list discounted grinders due to packaging damage or customer returns. Each unit is inspected and verified for normal operation, with condition notes shown on the listing. You can view current stock:

Coffee Grinders and Burrs

Which grinder should I choose: DF54 or DF64 Gen 2?

The DF54 is compact, quiet, and a great all-rounder for home espresso and filter brewing. The DF64 Gen 2 has larger 64mm burrs, more range for espresso enthusiasts, and aftermarket upgrade options.

If you want to experiment more with flavours and different burr types, the DF64 Gen 2 is usually the better option. Smaller kitchens or tighter budgets often pair well with the DF54.

For more info comparing the DF54 and DF64 Coffee grinders, check out the following blog post: DF54 vs the DF64 Gen 2: Which Grinder is Right for You?

Do your grinders include an AU/NZ plug, and are they compatible with AU/NZ power outlets?

Yes, all our grinders are supplied with an AU/NZ standard plug (Type I, 3-pin) and are set up for AU/NZ power outlets (no adaptor required).

What makes a single-dose grinder different?

Single-dose grinders are designed to grind only the exact amount of beans you use each time. They reduce coffee waste, make switching beans easier, and help maintain freshness by avoiding stale beans sitting in a hopper.

Check out our blog article on single-dose grinders for more info.

Flat burrs vs conical burrs

Flat burr grinders create a more uniform grind size, which many people feel leads to cleaner flavours and better espresso clarity. Conical burrs usually create more body but can blend flavours together. Both are great options depending on what you're going for.

For an in depth overview see our Guide on flat vs conical burrs.

Can I upgrade my grinder's burrs later on?

Yes! While a range of aftermarket 64mm burr options have always been available for the DF64 Gen 2, we now have a number of 54mm burr options available for the DF54.

Some burrs are preferred for espresso, others for filter brews. Upgrading burrs is a popular way to improve flavour without changing the grinder itself.

See options for 64mm burrs here.

What are Red Titanium burrs?

Red Titanium burrs are stainless steel burrs with an AlTiN (aluminium titanium nitride) coating. The coating increases surface hardness and wear resistance, helping the burr edges stay sharp for longer than uncoated steel.

See our full breakdown in our Red Titanium burrs guide. These are available in both 54mm and 64mm versions.

Do I need to align the burrs on my new Coffee Grinder?

Grinders are aligned at the factory, but alignment can change slightly with use or when burrs are removed. If you hear chirping on one side of the dial or see uneven wear, alignment may help. We can walk you through checks if needed.

What is the difference between grind consistency and repeatability?

Consistency refers to how uniform the coffee particle sizes are within a single grind or dose. Repeatability refers to whether a grinder can reliably return to the same setting and produce the same results across multiple brews.

For a deeper explanation, read our guide on grind consistency and repeatability.

Coffee Basics

What is a burr grinder (and why not a blade grinder)?

A burr grinder crushes coffee beans between two precision cutting surfaces (“burrs”) to produce a consistent particle size. Consistency helps you get more repeatable extraction and better-tasting coffee.

Blade grinders chop beans unevenly, producing a mix of fine dust and large pieces, which often leads to inconsistent brewing results.

At Grind Logic, our DF-series grinders are burr grinders designed for consistent single-dose grinding.

Why does grind size matter?

Grind size controls extraction speed: finer grinds extract faster, coarser grinds extract slower. Too fine can taste bitter/harsh; too coarse can taste sour/weak.

As a rule of thumb: espresso = fine, filter/pour-over = medium, French press/immersion = coarse.

For practical starting points, see our settings guides for the DF54 and DF64.

What does “dialling in” mean?

Dialling in means adjusting your grind size (and sometimes dose and yield) until your coffee tastes balanced—sweet, clear, and not sour or bitter. Most of the time, the first thing to adjust is grind size.

Stepless adjustment helps because you can make tiny changes between settings, which is especially useful for espresso where small tweaks noticeably affect flow and taste.

For starting points, see our grind setting guides for the DF54 and DF64 Gen 2.

What is retention / single dosing?

Retention is the amount of ground coffee that stays inside the grinder instead of coming out. High retention can mix old grounds into your next shot.

Single dosing means weighing one dose of beans, grinding it, and aiming for minimal leftover grounds—great for freshness and for switching between coffees without wasting beans.

See our guide on single-dose coffee grinders for more information.

What do “flat burr” and “conical burr” mean in plain English?

Flat burrs use two flat rings; they’re often chosen for clarity and consistency, especially for espresso.

Conical burrs use a cone-shaped burr inside a ring; they’re often described as producing a more blended, rounded flavour profile.

Read our Flat vs Conical burr guide for a deeper comparison.

What is RDT (Ross Droplet Technique), and should I use it on my DF54 or DF64?

RDT is a simple workflow where you add a tiny mist of moisture to your coffee beans before grinding. It helps reduce static cling, mess, and “coffee dust” — especially in dry weather — and can make dosing/transfer into the cup or portafilter cleaner and more consistent for single-dosing.

DF series grinders include chute deionisers that reduce static, but a light RDT spritz can still help minimise any remaining static depending on your beans and conditions.

If you’d like a purpose-made bottle, see our RDT Spray Bottle here.

For more information on reducing static, see our guide.
