DF64 Gen 2 – Precision, Refined

The DF64 Gen 2 Coffee Grinder (v2.7) is a 64mm flat-burr, single-dose grinder designed for precise espresso dial-in and versatile brewing from espresso through to filter. With stepless grind adjustment, low retention and a highly customisable 64mm burr platform, it offers a practical and repeatable workflow for home baristas.

Latest production revision: DF64 Gen 2 v2.7. We are currently supplying the latest v2.7 production revision. The DF64 Gen 2 receives small running updates between production batches rather than major changes to the core grinder. Current v2.7 units incorporate the latest factory refinements, including the updated anti-popcorn design and revised inner-chute ioniser arrangement, helping support a clean and consistent single-dose workflow.

Choose stainless steel or upgraded Red Titanium burrs. Our Red Titanium option uses 64mm stainless steel burrs with an AlTiN coating designed to improve wear resistance and help retain the burrs' cutting characteristics over a longer service life. It's a straightforward durability upgrade for customers who want the coated burr option pre-installed from the outset. Learn more about Red Titanium burrs.

Key Features

  • 64mm flat burr platform – a proven, highly customisable platform with extensive aftermarket burr options.

  • Stepless grind adjustment – make fine adjustments for espresso while retaining enough range to comfortably move into filter and immersion brewing.

  • Low-retention single-dose workflow – designed to minimise carry-over between coffees, with bellows to help clear remaining grounds.

  • Anti-static ioniser system – ion-generator probes positioned around the inner chute help reduce static as ground coffee exits the grinder.

  • Red Titanium burr option – choose AlTiN-coated burrs for increased wear resistance and long-term durability.

  • Highly upgradeable – compatible with a broad range of aftermarket 64mm burr sets, giving you flexibility to tune the grinder as your preferences evolve.

  • Heavy-duty aluminium construction – a solid, stable grinder with a relatively compact, home-friendly footprint.

  • AU/NZ plug + local support – supplied with an AU/NZ plug and backed by Grind Logic's local product support and in-house 12-month warranty.

Burr Options: Stainless Steel vs Red Titanium

The DF64 Gen 2 is available with either standard uncoated stainless steel burrs or Red Titanium-coated 64mm burrs. Both are capable options for home espresso and filter brewing. The main advantage of the Red Titanium option is its harder, wear-resistant AlTiN coating, which is designed to help the burrs retain their cutting characteristics over a longer service life.

Stainless Steel Red Titanium-Coated
Coating Uncoated stainless steel AlTiN (aluminium titanium nitride)
Best for Typical home use and value-focused setups Frequent use or long-term ownership
Key benefit Durable and capable standard burr set Improved wear resistance and longer-term durability
In the cup Well suited to espresso and filter brewing The coating is primarily a durability upgrade rather than a different flavour-focused burr platform
Worth considering if You want the standard burr option and expect normal home use You grind frequently, plan to keep the grinder for many years, or want maximum wear resistance

For most home users, the standard stainless steel burrs should already provide a long service life. Red Titanium is best viewed as an optional longevity upgrade rather than an essential performance upgrade. If your goal is to make a more substantial change to flavour profile, clarity, body or sweetness, changing to a different burr geometry — such as an SSP burr set — is generally the more relevant upgrade path.

For a more detailed explanation of the coating and whether it makes sense for your use, see our Red Titanium Burrs Guide.

Who is the DF64 Gen 2 for?

  • Espresso-first home baristas who want precise, repeatable adjustment and room to fine-tune their extractions.

  • Single-dose users who regularly change coffees and want to minimise carry-over between doses.

  • Upgraders moving from smaller or entry-level grinders who want a larger 64mm flat-burr platform with greater customisation potential.

  • Mixed-brew households that primarily make espresso but also want one grinder capable of comfortably covering filter and immersion brewing.

  • Enthusiasts who want an upgrade path – the standard 64mm platform gives you access to a wide selection of aftermarket burr geometries if your preferences change over time.

Designed for Espresso – Flexible Enough for Filter

The DF64 Gen 2 offers a broad grind range, approximately 180–1050 µm as a rough reference, adjusted through its stepless micrometric collar. Exact settings will vary depending on burr set, calibration, coffee and the individual grinder's zero point.

If you're setting up your grinder for the first time, our DF64 Gen 2 grind size guide provides practical starting ranges for espresso, pour-over, filter and immersion brewing.

For espresso specifically, see our DF64 espresso dial-in guide for a practical process for adjusting grind size, dose and yield.

Low Retention and a Clean Single-Dose Workflow

The DF64 Gen 2 is designed around single dosing, helping minimise stale grounds and carry-over when changing between coffees. Its bellows, anti-popcorning system and direct grounds path are designed to help clear coffee through the grinder after each dose.

Current v2.7 units combine the revised inner-chute ioniser arrangement with the latest anti-popcorn design to support a clean, low-retention single-dose workflow.

Routine cleaning of the burr chamber and chute will help keep the grinder performing consistently over time. See our DF64 Gen 2 cleaning and maintenance guide for practical instructions.

A 64mm Platform You Can Grow With

One of the DF64 Gen 2's biggest strengths is its 64mm flat-burr platform. The grinder can be configured with standard stainless steel or Red Titanium burrs and can also accommodate a wide range of aftermarket 64mm burr sets.

This makes the DF64 Gen 2 particularly appealing if you want a grinder that can evolve with your preferences. Burrs such as SSP Espresso/HU, Multipurpose and Lab Sweet allow you to tune the grinder towards different combinations of body, sweetness and clarity rather than replacing the grinder itself.

See our SSP 64mm burr comparison guide if you're interested in the different upgrade paths available.

DF54 or DF64 Gen 2?

If you're deciding between the two models, the DF54 offers an excellent compact and value-focused entry into single-dose grinding, while the DF64 Gen 2 provides a larger 64mm burr platform, greater upgrade potential and substantially more choice in aftermarket burr geometries.

See our full DF54 vs DF64 Gen 2 comparison for a detailed breakdown.

I have had several grinders including a Breville Smart ginder and a Compak K3.
The taste I get with my DF64 Gen 2 V2.5 is the best I have ever achieved. I can grind so fine that I can completely stop any water making it through the puck. This means I can now dial in for any roast level or bean type.
The dial adjustment is very repeatable and allows me to pour a decaf and a normal coffee each morning by adjusting the dial 2.5 marks on the dial to the sweet spot on each roast.
This is also the fastest grinder I have ever used. I grind a light roasted bean for espresso in only 14 seconds. There is almost never any retention because the coffee pours out at such a good speed helping to clear the chute.
It does make a slightly higher pitched noise than my previous grinders, but I only hear it for half of the time.
I highly recommend this grinder and appreciate the service approach of Grind Logic. I particularly appreciate their 60 day change of mind return policy.

I was very suspicious and nervous after realised the business addresse is a virtual address, and little no info about the retailler. Ithey also offered free shipping to NZ where I live with lowest price on internet, everything seems too good to be true.

But after just 1 week, I received the beautiful grinder, very well build. The retailer is also very responsive, replied my email within a day.

In my experience, there is no reason not a 5 stars

FAQs

What brew methods is the DF64 Gen 2 suitable for?

The DF64 Gen 2 covers nearly every brew method, and is capable of espresso, Aeropress, pour-over, V60, French press, cold brew and drip coffee.

Its stepless grind adjustment, wide grind range, and 64mm flat burrs make it an extremely versatile home grinder.

Check out our guide for dialling in your DF64 for a range of brew methods.

What burrs does the DF64 Gen 2 use?

The DF64 gen 2 uses 64 mm flat burrs.

The stock models at Grind Logic come with either uncoated stainless steel burrs, or red titanium coated stainless steel burrs.

After-market burr options are available for the DF64 Gen 2, such as SSP's 64 mm lab sweet burrs, and SSP 64 mm red speed multipurpose and espresso burrs. These allow you to refine the grinder's performance and optimise it for your preferred brew method and taste profile.

Is the DF64 Gen 2 easy to clean and maintain?

Yes, the grinder is very easy to clean and maintain.

The burr chamber is accessible by removing the collar, and its bellows allow you to easily purge the grinder of residual coffee grounds.

An occasional clean out of the burr chamber and exit chute using its accompanying chute cleaning brush keeps performance and taste consistent.

Can I grind directly into a portafilter?

Yes. It includes a 58 mm dosing cup and collar that can hold your portafilter or act as a catch cup for clean, direct dosing.

Is the DF64 Gen 2 suitable for beginners?

Yes it is! The DF64 Gen 2 is very beginner-friendly. Simply set the grind dial to your desired range, switch the grinder on, and add your coffee beans. Its stepless adjustment and low-retention design make it easy to learn and consistent to use, even for first-time espresso or filter brewing.

What are the version differences in the DF64?

The original DF64 (Gen 1) established the basic platform: a 64mm flat-burr, single-dose grinder with stepless adjustment, low retention and broad compatibility with aftermarket 64mm burrs, including many SSP options.

The DF64 Gen 2 retained that core design while introducing a more refined workflow, including an anti-static ioniser, updated grounds chute and declumper arrangement, integrated anti-popcorn system, and revised dosing accessories.

Since the introduction of Gen 2, the DF64 has received smaller running updates between production batches rather than major changes to the grinder itself.

Gen 2 v2.5 units typically included several accessory and workflow refinements, including the black metal dosing cup and silicone dosing-cup wedge used in place of the earlier dosing collar.

Gen 2 v2.7 is the latest production revision supplied by Grind Logic. It incorporates the latest factory refinements, including an updated anti-popcorn design and revised inner-chute ioniser arrangement.

The core motor specification, 64mm burr platform, stepless adjustment system and overall grinding concept remain fundamentally consistent across the Gen 2 revisions. Differences between versions such as v2.5 and v2.7 are therefore best understood as incremental workflow and component refinements rather than major changes in grinding performance.

Note: Minor components and included accessories can vary between production batches and regional configurations.

64mm Red Titanium burr - for DF64 Coffee Grinder

Optional Red Titanium Burrs

Choose your DF64 Gen 2 with either standard uncoated stainless steel burrs or Red Titanium-coated stainless steel burrs.

The Red Titanium option uses an Aluminium Titanium Nitride (AlTiN) coating designed to increase surface hardness and wear resistance. This helps the burr edges retain their shape over time, supporting consistent performance and a longer service life.
